I first saw this story in a little shop in Florida a couple years ago. It sat on a card next to a bin of starfish. Recently, I came across it again on a website. I read it with new eyes this time. Of the 143 million children around the room without a family, I hope I can make a difference in one...
There was a man who was walking along a sandy beach where thousands of starfish had been washed up on the shore. As he looked down the beach he noticed a boy picking the starfish one by one and throwing them back into into the ocean.
He got closer and called out "Good morning! What are you doing?"
The boy paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean. If I don't throw them back in they will die."
The man said, "Don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it? You can't possibly make a difference."
The boy listened politely. Then he bent down, picked another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves.
He looked at the man and said, "It made a difference for that one."

I think that story is such a great encouragement for adoption. The number of children is so staggering that it can be overwhelming to think you can make a difference....and so we tend not to do anything--but just look around at the blogs and SEE the difference that adoption is making!! So blessed to be a part of it!!
Hi! I love your blog. Just wanted to tell you that I have really been touched reading your posts. My husband Jake and I are also waiting for our little girl from Korea. We are using AIAA and our homestudy was sent to Korea on August 12th, so we are right there with you! I'm praying for all our babies as we wait.
