The Quest for a Comb.

So Korea is by far one of the most beautiful places on Earth!! And we are so excited to be here experiencing this culture. But somethings just never seem to change... What I mean is this... On the night of our arrival, we quickly settled in, arranged our bags and laid down for some rest. After that I took a shower and then poor Amber tried too... however she discovered one minor detail in her plan. She forgot her comb!! Yes her comb. This may sound trivial, but with her long curly hair, her comb is an essential tool in washing, conditioning and styling her hair... and this began what we now call mission impossible! A comb, how hard could it be to find a comb? Heck you can find them in every corner store and mom and pop shop in the states. So we began to search the 7-11's and any other small corner shop to find Amber a comb....no luck. so we kept our eyes open as we walked the street at Insadong.....no luck. After we ate, our mission was to get our hands on a comb at all costs. So we started asking for a large store called an "E-mart" but there were none close by without taking a taxi. So we thought about a department store, and it was suggested to us by many strangers (who by the way were very eager to help us and very friendly) that we walk to what was called Lotte Department store. We we walked several blocks until we found Lotte. Looked simple from the outside, but little did we know what we were walking in to. First of all, this store was HUGE, only taking up about 8 stories of well everything you can imagine a department store would have. But there is more, what made Lotte incredible was the type of products...products such as Gucci, Prada, Kate Spade, and even Gucci for kids and any other high end product you could think of!! And prices to match! For example we stopped off at the kids section and came across a T-shirt for about $250.00. Crazy.
Well, we, or should I say Amber was still in need of a comb so we asked the information desk and several people who worked there where we could find a comb. I mean really, how expensive could a simple comb be?? Floor 8 is were we finally ended up, and in the tiniest corner display were about 6 combs/brushes. FINALLY.... but there was one problem... what appeared to be normal combs and brushes were actually $76 Italian made combs and brushs. CRAZY!!! No way was I paying that much for a comb... heck Amber could just go and use a fork at that price!! Amber did talk to a clerk and asked for a hair brush that was less expensive (afraid to say the word "cheaper") and the clerk returned with a perfect comb for Amber... yet the comb was still about $19! So we wandered back downstairs, feeling defeated and still wondering where in the world would we get a comb? And then it happened...a message came over the loud speaker. I could not understand what was being said, but I knew the implication. They were announcing that the store would be closing soon and requesting that shoppers make their final purchases. This is when Amber and I went into action! We decided the $19 price tag was worth it since we could have spent quite a bit more on a taxi and ended up without a comb anyways. So we raced back to the 8th floor and searched frantically for the clerk who we had talked with earlier. She only took cash (which I had) and we bought the comb. The comb is now Amber's most prized possession and I made her strap it to her body on our way home... ok not really, but we had one fantastic journey in search of a "simple" comb.
