After we returned to our rooms after spending the morning at Namdaemun Market, we got another opportunity to play with Adelyn at SWS. The social worker had suggested an extra meeting since Daum (Adelyn)had such a difficult day the first day meeting us. As soon as we walked in, she went right to Jeff for more Gerber puffs! She never cried once! It was such an answer to prayer! The foster mother and social worker snuck out of the room to leave us alone with her. We played for about an hour. She was happy and only fussed a couple times when she started getting tired. There was a stuffed teddy bear on the bed (same teddybear and same bed that she sat on for her first referral pictures!) and I reached for it for her. She grabbed it and immediately laughed and buried her head in the bear. I mean... this girl knows how to snuggle! It was the cutest thing ever! Her foster mother said she needs a snuggly animal to sleep with at night and you could see it in her reaction to the bear! She wanted to go to Daddy then and curled up on his lap with the bear and her pacifier. He rocked her in his arms and sang to her. Her little eyes started to get droopy and they rocked for about ten minutes. It was absolutely precious. The social worker peeked in the room and startled her and then she sat up and wanted to play more. It was so fun having this extra special time with her. It was getting close to her nap time and she saw her foster mother's purse laying by the wall and peeking out from it was her bottle. As soon as she saw that bottle, that is all she wanted. We tried to hide it in her purse, but smarty-pants knew exactly where it was and what she wanted. After a few minutes, it was time to pass her back to her foster Mom so she could take her home, feed her and put her down for a nap. What a special day again!
When we left, the social worker gave us two VERY special gifts. The first was a USB flashdrive containing 184 pictures and videos from her time with the foster family!!! This was priceless! The pictures are from when she was little (about four months old) until recently. We even have videos of her foster mother, foster father, and foster brother singing and playing with her. These will be treasured forever! It was amazing to have this glimpse into a past we missed out on. What an amazing gift. The second gift brought tears to my eyes... it was a gift from her birthmother. It was a handmade pillow and outfit that the birthmother had made for her. This will be so cherished by us and her. How special for Adelyn to have this connection to her birth mother.
When we got back, we were going to go back downtown to tour some of the other palaces. We got busy watching her videos and pictures from the foster family and Jeff laid down for a little while. I started getting tired too and since it was only 4:00 in the afternoon, I decided to take a little nap and then we could go downtown for dinner.... well... needless to say, I guess the jet lag had caught up to us a bit because we woke up at 10:30 at night! We both laughed, rolled over and went back to sleep until morning! We slept a total of 14 hours!!!! I couldn't believe it! Besides the fact that my stomach was growling in the morning because we had slept through dinner, we both felt good and well rested. Ready for a new day!
