This past Sunday, November 7 was Orphan Sunday.
A Sunday to remember the orphans.... the homeless... those who have no family... the fatherless... the motherless... the ones who have been left alone...
God has called each and every person to love one another as He has loved you. God has "adopted" us as His own. He has adopted us into His heavenly family. He has taken us in when we were alone. He calls us His own. We are His sons and His daughters. Children of the King.
We are adopted.
Last year, we were just beginning our journey into adoption. We had no idea the rollercoaster ride of emotions we would be in for. We had no idea the hours and hours of paperwork that lay ahead. We didn't know the anxiety and emotions we would encounter. We also had no idea that a baby girl across an ocean could grip our hearts so tightly. That we could love someone we have never met or never seen. That we would gladly repeat it all again...
Last year, when our adoption journey began, it was about us. It was about us wanting a daughter and sister for our family. It was about us completing our family. But this Sunday we sat through Orphan Sunday with tears in our eyes. In the last year, God has opened our eyes to the true reason He called us to adopt. He has shown us the reason He nudged us to adopt. He has shown us why He always placed this desire to adopt in our hearts. Its not about us. Its about a little girl who has no family. Its about a little girl who will undoubtedly change our family forever... a little girl who will bless us and remind us about God's love for us. All because God first chose to love us.
We were orphans once.
This Orphan Sunday we sat with eyes opened and hearts raw as we wait to give our baby girl a home. Got love? That's all God asks for. Let love open your heart to find a way to help the orphans around the world. We may be giving one a home, but there are still 143 million who still need love. Find a way this year to do something to help them. Just love....
