Today was a big day for Carson.
Today was a day he has been counting down to for weeks now. Each morning he would tell me "Only 2 more weeks..." or "Only 5 more days..." or "Two more days..." You would have thought he was going to Disney World. Last night he couldn't sleep he was so excited.
Excited for what you ask?
BRACES!!
Yup, my cute little fourth grader headed into the orthodontist this morning and came out looking like a middle schooler!! I just can't believe how grown up he is becoming! He did a great job and has an entire mouth of metal now! Because he has such a big overbite, his braces will actually be in two phases. This first phase has an appliance in his mouth that forces his bottom jaw forward to help correct his overbite. There is metal around his back teeth, on top of his mouth and behind his bottom front teeth... all glued in place. There are also bars that look like car shocks on the sides of his mouth. He also has brackets on his top front teeth. Wow. What a trooper! This will last about 1 1/2 years, then he will have a little break until he is 12 when he will have traditional braces for a few years.
He was all smiles when he came out of the office. He chose circle brackets for his front teeth (wow they have come a long way in braces... who would have thought you could choose the SHAPE of your braces... stars, circles, diamonds, flowers...) He also has red and black bands around them since red and black are his favorite colors (although he told me his friend at school dared him to get pink and purple!!)
So continues a tradition of metal mouths in this family. Jeff and I both had braces when we were younger, so it was probably inevitable. We will see if Kolby and Addi follow in our footsteps!
